Insights from a Social Media Intern at ApartmentsFor
W
hen I started my Social Media Representative internship with ApartmentsFor, working with 407apartments.com, serving the Orlando market, I knew I was stepping into a creative role, but I didn’t realize how much fun (and growth) would come with it. This internship quickly became one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of my college experience, blending creativity, flexibility, and real-world responsibility in a way that felt meaningful every single week.

A Hands-On Role in Property Marketing
One of the things I love most about this internship is how hands-on and flexible it is. Each week, I visit partner apartment communities near UCF—both new and returning properties—to film spotlight videos that showcase what makes each community unique. That could mean filming a model unit, capturing amenities like pools or study lounges, or highlighting how close a property is to campus.
Filming and editing became my favorite part of the role! I primarily edit in CapCut, experimenting with transitions, sound effects, captions, and trends to make each video feel fun, natural, and scroll-stopping. Every property has its own personality, and I enjoyed figuring out how to translate that into short-form video content that actually resonates with college students.
Beyond apartment spotlights, I also created lifestyle content—things students genuinely relate to. “Day in my life” videos, study spot recommendations, tips for living off campus, and seasonal content helped keep our audience engaged while still naturally guiding them toward housing resources.
The Impact I Made
One of the most exciting parts of this internship was seeing real results from the work I was creating. When I took over the 407apartments TikTok account, I increased the follower count by 57.28%, exceeding the semester goal of 500 followers. I give huge thanks to my Marketing Coordinator, Georgina, as we were able to:
- Increase engagement rate by 85.06%
- Increase website clicks by 200%
- Increase reached audience by 88.38%
What helped me accomplish such great goals? Staying consistent, posting frequently, testing new fonts, sound effects, and transitions, and not being afraid to try something new. Some of the simplest, most natural videos performed better than the ones I overthought—and that lesson completely changed how I approached content creation.
Skills I Gained (Without Even Realizing It at First)
While this internship was rooted in social media, the skills I developed extend far beyond content creation. I developed strong communication skills by working with leasing agents, marketing staff, and partner communities. I also gained experience in professional outreach by calling properties to confirm updated rates and specials, then making sure that information was accurately reflected on 407apartments.com.
I also contributed to FAQs on the website, which helped me understand how SEO, digital content, and social media all work together. Learning how social platforms drive traffic back to the website gave me a much bigger-picture view of marketing as a whole.
And of course, juggling filming, editing, posting, and school taught me a lot about time management and staying organized—especially during busy weeks.
Why This Internship Matters To Me
To me, this internship is more than just something to put on a resume. It’s a real job that gives you real responsibility while still fitting into a full-time class schedule. You’re trusted to represent real communities, make creative decisions, and build a portfolio you’re proud of.
It also helped me gain confidence in myself. Seeing my ideas come to life, watching engagement grow, and knowing people were actually interacting with content I created was incredibly motivating. It made me realize that I’m capable of balancing responsibility, creativity, and school all at the same time.
Most importantly, this internship showed me that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Sometimes it happens while you’re filming a video, editing late at night, or figuring things out as you go. And honestly, that’s where some of the best growth happens.
Looking Ahead to Spring Semester
As I move into the spring semester, I’m excited to bring a more refined, confident approach to content creation and strategy. I look forward to continuing to elevate how partner communities are represented online, experimenting with fresh storytelling techniques, and further strengthening engagement within the UCF student housing market.
If you’re a student thinking about applying, I can honestly say this role lets you be yourself, learn a ton, and have fun while doing it. I got to film, edit, experiment, and grow—all while balancing classes and real-life responsibilities. And that’s what made this internship so special. It didn’t just teach me skills; it made me excited about what I’m capable of next.
