Inside UGA’s “Intern for a Day” with ApartmentsFor
On October 16, ApartmentsFor hosted three University of Georgia students through UGA’s Intern for a Day program — a Career Center initiative that connects students with real-world industry experience in a single immersive day.
Kickoff: Panel at the College of Family & Consumer Sciences
We began the day with Dr. Brown’s Introduction to Property Management class, where Managing Director Sydney Jamieson moderated a panel featuring:
- Ricky Boggs — Landmark Properties
- Chris Joiner — Joiner & Associates
- Olivia Blitchington — ApartmentsFor
Discussion highlights included career journeys, what differentiates each company, and the skills and responsibilities that make property management a rewarding field.
Sample Panel Questions
- Career highlights: educational background and paths to current roles (2 minutes each)
- Company snapshots: what they do, locations, size, differentiators (1 minute each)
- Current responsibilities, skills needed, favorite parts of the job — and why (3 minutes each)
Touring Off-Campus Housing Around Athens
After the panel, we hopped into Sydney’s rental SUV for a guided look at off-campus housing near UGA.
The 1785 Club: Guided by Moira (a past ApartmentsFor social media intern now onsite), the students called out the inviting courtyards, private balconies, and modern finishes.
The Maxxen: Next up was The Maxxen, where the leasing team answered thoughtful questions about daily operations, resident experience, and career opportunities in property management.
Lunch & Learn at Pointe Grand
We picked up lunch and settled into Pointe Grand’s comfy conference room to chat about the student housing landscape and how tech and storytelling are reshaping leasing.
The students also stepped behind the scenes of a video shoot with on-screen talent Ava (past intern and UGA alum) and videographer Ben (recent UGA grad), observing setup and the first takes.
Cross-Campus Collaboration
In the afternoon, the interns joined a Zoom with The Agency at UF for a progress update on a student research collaboration with ApartmentsFor. They contributed ideas, asked questions, and compared how different campuses engage with off-campus resources.
Wrapping Up at The Arch
We closed the day at the iconic UGA Arch with our ApartmentsForAthens social media representative, Cam. After a few photos, we filmed a quick tiny-mic recap capturing each intern’s favorite moment and biggest takeaway.
Our team left feeling even more connected to the UGA community — energized by the students’ curiosity, observations, and ideas.
About UGA’s Intern for a Day
Intern for a Day is a one-day job shadowing program (in-person or virtual) that helps students explore a career path, connect classroom learning to industry trends, and network with professionals. Employers volunteer each semester; students create a profile, search opportunities by filters like industry or major, and apply with a resume and short interest statement.
